The yawning pit opens
Structures above it parting
Stretching a chasm wide
It waits to be filled
However much is put into it
Churns and roils
And falls at length
Into other holes
Sacrifices must be made
Things born but to die in such a way
Killed and carved and cast down
And it is never enough
Of such offerings
Offal
Awful
But not inspiring awe
Unless they are rejected
Cast again
But into that place
Where the accepted arrive in time
And thence are taken away
