It courage takes to keep a thinking mind.
It courage takes to keep the heart still kind.
It courage takes to endure while maligned,
And oft-maligned are thinking people now
Who, in their thinking, promise to show how
The world might well a better way allow.
Of course, such is as it has always been,
That just as soon as something will begin
To make things better, others will again
Arise and try to make all matters worse.
Such may well be the chief and vilest curse
That ever an ill-speaker did rehearse.
No easy task will be to break such spell
As any who attempt it surely tell.
