It is not the sound of
The screaming clock that vexes me
When I wake up in the morning
No birdsong or cock-crow
Nor even dogs' barking or caterwauling from
The horny feral felines flocking down the street
Oh, no
It is yet other noise
Quiet to the ear perhaps
But not less loud elsewhere
And harder to shut out because of it
