Turn your face away from us, O, Stupid God, we plead,
For that, of all your blessings, is the only one we need.
Look away from us; our prayer thus to you, heed.
Save us from a sermon that will be but one more screed
Ranted out by those who long for us in greed
And want for us to them to reason’s power cede.
Go away from us in haste, and to elsewhere proceed.
