The Ceti Alpha V eel
(I know I show myself a nerd
By opening with such a line)
Is appropriate in kind
But not in form
For it is not simply some rubbery-fleshed tube that enters the ear
Controls the mind
Causes pain
But sounds themselves
Damnable earworms
Snippets of songs or the whole of them
Heard in passing and disregarded at the time
Growing and manifesting later
Playing again in the mind
(Which sounds like hallucinations
And hallucinations are a mark of lessened sanity)
I need a purgative for them
